Threads of Ames

Threads Juniors

Threads Juniors is a weekly morning class geared towards 4 & 5 year olds and their attending parent. This program is designed for the younger siblings of students in other Threads Programs. It runs for 12 weeks in the fall and 12 weeks in the spring. Parents must be present in the building during class time, and are encouraged to assist their student in the classroom. This weekly class consists of the following components:

  1. Beginning Phonograms:
    • Students will learn the basic 26 English phonograms and all of their sounds through fun games. This will prepare them for Language Learning in the Threads Primary Program.
  2. Pre-Writing:
    • Students will practice coloring, tracing, and writing the phonogram learned that day and their name.
    • Students will also do a corresponding craft related to the phonogram.
  3. Read Aloud:
    • The Partner-Teacher will read a book that showcases the phonogram they learned that day.
  4. Sing Learning Songs:
    • Students will learn a variety of songs that are used in our Threads Primary program. They will sing about Geography, History, Math, Science, English, and TimeLine.
  5. Show & Tell
    • Students will do show & tell each week to help prepare them for presentations in the Primary program.
  6. Classroom Behavior:
    • Students will learn how to learn in a classroom setting, listen to their teacher, and transition between activities. This is the main emphasis of this class.

Please note: Threads is NOT patterned or leveled like the public school system. Classroom behavior, class material, teaching, and homework will be more in line with the classical education style that shapes, encourages, and challenges students to give their best effort at each developmental stage.
